18 January Chopwell TT

I arrived at Chopwell woods at about 8.20am on a snowy and cold January morning. After checking in I warmed up with a quick look at the icey hard packed track which consisted of some open and bermed corners on the top half with a more technical wooded section in the lower half followed by a final sprint stretch to the finish line. Practice started at 9.15 and conditions looked precarious but the snow on the top layer was surprisingly grippy. Most of the competitors wanted to smash some laps out in order to get a feel for the course and so after a few practice runs the course was slippy in places. A little rain then helped to clear the rest of the ice and by the end of practice the course was running fast and smooth thanks to the work of the trail builders prior to the event. The first race run came and I finished the run feeling as if I hadn't pushed hard enough due to slight doubts over course conditions. I decided to change my line through the wooded second half as it was running faster than I thought. This paid of with an improvement in my time of 2 seconds. The day was topped of with Scott Mears presenting the awards. Overall a great day out and looking forward to the next tt in March.
